Where in continental Europe is it comfortable sufficient (and pleasing enough) to camp?

Asking for friends who have been meditative of receiving their family over from Scotland for dual weeks in October. They had suspicion of regulating campsites upon the West Coast of France, or the South of France, afterwards upon to Italy, unless the better, some-more tasteful idea is made.
Has any one finished this, as well as if so, what worked for them?
They have been driving, their young kids have been all over eight, as well as they will substantially have their dog with them.
