Unless you are planning to participate in a cultural or any other event, it should be ok for you to visit Malaysia in any period. Malaysia is a very beautiful country and most of the cities have almost the same weather through out the year except for the highlands. Rain shouldn't spoil your fun as long as you are well equipped. ;)
Have a nice journey.

I should imagine so. I went to Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur in August and that was supposed to be rainy season too. It rained a lot and very heavily, however it didn't spoil anything. Langkawi is beautiful and a great place to relax. I hope you have a lovely time out there.

Malaysia is really really really hot. The rain will make it cooler for a little while anyway (is it really the rainy season? I thought it started in October?)

I loved Malaysia. There are many different cultures food, beaches, rain forests, neat architecture... It probably isn't the safest place to go, but it is far from the most dangerous. Probably 100 times safer than a lot of countries. If your definition of safe is japan, then it isn't but otherwise it isn't bad. Do you have a travel companion? That might make you feel more secure. Make sure you use safe atm's and don't let people in all the shops swipe your credit cards or someone might steal the number. Don't let your bags hang all over. There are a lot of scooters and i knew a girl who had her purse snatched.

Malaysia is a very safe country at any time through out the year. Late Nov until early Jan is the best because of school holidays and Cristmas celebration will make u enjoy yr holiday. U know in Malaysia there are open house practice by all religious. This time all the Cristians turn to have open house and other races friends of them will come to their house for celebrations. If u have a friend here u also could attend the open house or the hotel will celebrate too. But the National open house which host by the Government will be held in Sabah this year which will be officiate by The King (AGONG) or Prime Minister. My suggestion to u that u should experience this enjoyful cristmas here and u will never regrad.

Welcome To Malaysia. Malaysia Truly Asia.

Rain it will rain .
But it adds more fun.
Normally the rain is just for an hour or less even if it is a thunderstorm and generally it is cooler to do walk about right after that.
Cooler air more romantic, i think.

The longest rain i ever encountered during my stay there was a pesky little rain that lasted 5 hours.
The only real damper if it rains during an open air BBQ.
Bring a hat and waterproof your camera . i use a plastic wrapper.

It is safe?
I think so. I dont see any mat rempits or snatch thieves on that island for 5 days.
